I am greatly inspired by the unnerving phenomenon of sleep paralysis. Utilising mixed media from steel to plaster my work delves into my personal experieces exhibiting within intimate settings.
My process has been deeply rooted in the study of psychology, specifically sleep paralysis and my personal connection to this unnerving familiarity. When experiencing this paralysis, a haunting sensation stirs primal instincts such as fear and anxiety that I then personified taking on tangible forms symbolising the monstrous force I feel when left in my most vulnerable state; asleep.
To bring these enteritis to reality I turned to sculpture embracing mixed media utilising 6mm steel for stability, plaster for texture and resin for refinement. Throughout this journey, I have learnt how to weld, make and curate. With meticulous planning, countless hours in workshops and my studio space I managed to develop my technique that resulted in ‘Unwanted Company’ a collection not only embodying the eerie ambiguity of sleep paralysis but also demonstrate my newfound skills.
