I am an artist that specialises in Photography and Sculpture. My Photoshop and InDesign skills have inspired me to pursue a Graphic Design and Visualisation MA at Loughborough University starting in September 2024.
My practice uses photography and sculpture to articulate the multifaceted emotional responses evoked by sexual violence experienced by women. Through a deliberate interplay of these visual mediums, I aim to depict the intricate layers of emotion associated with this subject. I use plaster to create casts of the body, capturing moments much like photography, and reflecting a broken suit of armour. My work seeks to depict the disconnection between a person and their body as a result of another’s actions.
These sculptural pieces aim to capture the essence of a suffocating body, reflecting the weight and pressure victims of sexual violence endure. The shroud-like imagery symbolises a disconnection from the body.
The following images show the exploration process I undertook to achieve my final photography outcomes. I used Procreate to visualise the body casting process.
These images evidence the sculpture-making process were I draped plaster-soaked cloth over a female figure. Once dried, two of resulting casts were mounted on large wooden panels, leaving the full body sculpture to be displayed on a handmade plinth.
