Armour to Ornament

Armour to Ornament – developing versatility of form over practicality of function

Developed patina on copper and aged form contrasted with fresh brass and linked through bright gold leaf. Brass work held by brazing and finished with fine hammered textures. High contrast finish of brass beside patinaed copper, with a tactile surface for handholding.

Developing flowing forms from functional shapes

Trialing geometric shapes versus flowing more natural shapes and their impact on redefining form from previous utilitarian function. The project is driven by a fascination with the design of historical armour and following the behaviour of metal with the passing of time.
