Final Project

“Every 14 seconds a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer”

Mammo- An at home Breast Cancer Screening Device

Mammo is a service and device that takes away the fear and dread from breast screening. 43% of women who have been invited for a screening did not attend their appointments.

Mammo’s design leverages user-friendly technology to enable individuals to perform breast cancer screenings in the privacy and comfort of their own homes. The process is simple, clear and accessible for all.

How it works

The device is used on the bare skin, it is placed on the breast where one would apply light pressure. The user presses the button to turn the device on, this begins the process of scanning. The infra-red camera will begin to take a 3D model of the breast, as the user follows the instructions on the app of how to correctly move the device to create the 3D model. The MUT (Micromachined Ultrasound Transducers) will then start to take an in-depth breast reading for the user to analyse.

Components

Micromachines Ultrasound Transducer (MUT)

What is MUT?

MUT is a breakthrough ultrasound technology. It is a MEMS (micro-electromechanical system) based structure that can be used to transmit and receive acoustic signals in the ultrasonic range.

Mammo App

Mammo will be used in parallel with an app. The app will allow the user to interact with a 3D model of their own breast structure. The aim of the app is to encourage regular breast screenings and for it to become a part of their routine. It will provide a monthly review of each scan and give details of how to contact a medical professional for further information.
