I am a MMT student specialising in conceptual textile art. My work aims to document emotional connection to place via the exploration of shape, marks and materials.

Connections

This project is an exploration of place.

Inspiration from this project was drawn from the connections I have, to the landscapes surrounding my Cornish hometown.

Throughout the course of this project; a manifesto, describing the approach and thought process behind this way of working has developed:

-Reflect back to places that you feel an emotional connection to

-Make big marks describing your place

-Trust your intuition

-Use space as a medium. Force your materials to work into space

Quick sketches as a form of planning helped track the progress of concept and ideas for the project.

Markmaking was inspired out of necessity with the free and dynamic imagery I was working from.

Project Development

Material selection and visual aesthetics for this project are developed from the body of photography taken at the Cornish coastline.
The connection to my place encourages viewers to consider the emotional connections they have to their own places.
