I am a multimedia textile designer who enjoys combining both hand and digital processes. My practice is centered around CMF design for sportswear and streetwear applications.

NEO

Inspired by my childhood travels around the North Island of New Zealand, my final project explores the hidden wonders of Taupo’s volcanic zone. The geothermal parks within this region can be considered an ‘other worldly’ atmosphere, landscapes one might imagine on distant planets. NEO is a conceptual trainer collection which investigates the chemical nature of these landscapes and translates them through textile materials and processes.

Heat

Formed by hydrothermal eruptions, geysers and hot springs have inspired the processes explored within my collection. Heated by the volcanic activity from the Earth’s crust, the pools of water in these geothermal areas remain at a constant high temperature. This concept of heat has been fundamental to my practice – exploring how different materials can be manipulated by high temperatures, creating a variety of surface designs.

Colour

New Zealand’s geothermal parks are constantly changing and evolving. The vibrant chemical pools, which form my main inspiration, appear differently each day. Dependent on their mineral content and the amount of sunlight available, the colour of the water changes and the landscape is transformed. I have explored the idea of changing colours through my practice. Looking at gradient yarns, translucent plastics and layering colours; my pieces showcase how colour can be viewed differently. Offering alternative colourways has enhanced this idea, exploring the concept of customisable footwear.
