I specialise in textiles for lifestyle fashion and sportswear. I use digital techniques to create prints, weaves and embroidery for garments that are comfortable and flatter the female form. I have a strong interest in regenerative textiles and circularity.
This project evolved from my heritage growing up on the coast of Cornwall. There, my late father encouraged me to learn and grow by stepping out of my comfort zone. This inspired me to push myself into new situations; spending time studying in Sydney led me to take up regular sea swimming. Drawing and abstracting natural forms from both Cornwall and Sydney inspired this design work.
Cold-water swimming is proven to deliver many physical and mental health benefits. It is a clear example of stepping outside a comfort zone, experiencing a balance of fear and growth with the shock of the cold.
Current sea swimming garments and accessories are uncoordinated and collections are not comprehensive or sustainable. I am seeking to meet that need with this collection and inspire others to sea swim. In essence, my collection is a reflection of the need to find balance in our lives, and appreciate life for what we have.
This wetsuit made from perforated neoprene gives the instant cold water shock while providing warmth for the length of a swim. The orange sleeve allows the swimmer to be visible in the water.
This collection is inspired by self-care – a Sunday morning reset in a busy working life in the city – a walk that allows a moment to find joy in the little things at a local market, while feeling confident and comfortable. I researched and analysed different shapes and weave structures to create stretch and comfort for a spring transitional collection consisting of elevated basics.
