To me, destruction in art is pushing the boundaries of how art is supposed to look and how the work might change as a result of the destruction process; the beauty of the final piece is found inside the destruction.

Destruction as an art form

Glass wax flowers I melted the wax and placed the wax into plastic moulds within a ice bath.

Destruction of the everyday objects

I found enjoyment in destroying what was around me and what I could find on the street. When I came across a shopping basket, I decided to hit it with a baseball bat, completely changing the shape of the basket and creating an illusion effect. When I destroyed the umbrella, the fabric created a rippling effect, symbolising having a bad day and nothing going right.

Continuing this exercise, I’m curious what destruction process will occur next after discovering the found object to destroy.

This jumpsuit was worn throughout my placement at Pangolin Editions, where I sewed into it my daily activities while working at the factory and creating sculptures for artists.
For this work, I concentrated on the pricing of properties in London, from the richest to the poorest neighbourhoods. I placed the higher-priced houses in the same region as the higher-priced properties on the monopoly board, as did the poor. Because monopoly is a money-based game, I believe that in the future I should include politics and destruction to produce a stronger piece of work.
