Textiles: Innovation and Design (BA Hons)

I have consistently been passionate about color and composition. As a final-year Textiles student specializing in Weave, I have concentrated on the geometric, tile-like formations in my weaves and tapestry tiles for my final projects.

Final Project

By incorporating a range of imagery, including newspaper clippings of my Grandpa, original tiling of my Grandparents shop, the typical meal you would get from a Pie & Mash shop as well as the aesthetic off the shop itself, I have been able to develop a rich and diverse colour pallete.

The Processes

As I have decided to create my final pieces using 2 main processes, I have shown some snippets below of the stages of the processes. These are crucial to my final outcomes, as, any step that could go wrong would set me back in the progress of my work.

In the Print Studio, I am choosing one of the Acid Dye powders I am using to dip dye 1/3 of my top warp for my double cloth. I was aiming for a mustard/ dark brown.
Here I am in the Dye Lab in the Print Room, dip dyeing the bottom warp red as intended, this was very successful the second time round, as my first time dyeing this part of the warp, it went a deep pink!
After a successful dip dye process of dyeing the 3 separate warps for the top cloth of my Double Cloth Warp, I am leaving them out to dye. A successful day in the lab.
All the warps have been dyed so I am starting to set up the warps on the Loom in the Weave Shed, denting the threads after threading my warp.
Once the loom is fully set up, I can start weaving and here I am starting one of my final pieces.
Once I have set up my frame loom with yarns, I use a range of different yarns at the same time to develop my final tapestry pieces.

Here I am using the 24-Shaft Arm loom in our Weave Shed at the University. I have a 18-inch wide Double Cloth warp on the loom, where I am weaving one of my final pieces.
