Interior Scouting Rover

The goal of this project was to create a device that can safely explore damaged buildings to map and record potential hazards. Damage to buildings can be caused by fires, natural disasters or dereliction and the owners of the property will need to know whether or not the structure is safe to enter. This device will be able to alert a user to potential dangers before they enter the structure, allowing them to mark the hazard on the map that it generates and get a better understanding of the safety risks the building poses.
As the device will be navigating interior environments, an arm on the underside of the rover can lift the device onto an obstacle or step. This allows the rover to drive up stairs to examine the higher floors of a damaged building.
Equipped with a camera, a Lidar scanner and several gas sensors, the rover can explore the interior of a building and generate a map showing the location potential dangers. This information can be used to find a safe way for people navigate the building and make necessary repairs, allowing them to plan ahead and more effectively deal with hazards such as gas leaks or risk of structural collapse.
